LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (April 15, 2024) -- Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield invites the community to join them for National Walk at Lunch Day on April 24. At 11 a.m., groups will gather at the USAble Corporate Building at 320 W. Capitol and the Arkansas Blue Cross headquarters at 601 S. Gaines in Little Rock. Together, participants will walk to the Arkansas Capitol grounds.

"The lunch hour is the perfect time to fit activity into your day," said Kristen Lippencott, Arkansas Blue Cross manager of Well-being and Health Solution Strategies. "Just a short walk can help your body stretch and rejuvenate. It also breaks up your day and helps clear your mind so you can focus better when you return to work. Plus, you get an energy boost to avoid the 2 p.m. slump we always hear about."

After the walk, participants are invited to Green Leaf Grill at Arkansas Blue Cross' headquarters for snacks, prizes and games.

According to the American Heart Association, walking at least 150 minutes a week can:

  • Reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer
  • Increase your energy and stamina
  • Improve memory and reduce your risk of dementia
  • Improve bone strength and reduce your risk of osteoporosis

You do not have to be an Arkansas Blue Cross member to participate. National Walk at Lunch Day (#NWLD2024) is celebrated each year on the last Wednesday in April to help improve the health of Americans in communities nationwide. If you cannot join the public walk in Little Rock on April 24, you are encouraged to take a walk where you live or work and post your photos to social media using the hashtag #NWLD2024.
