A fire at the Cardinal Laundromat was reported to emergency services Thursday morning at around 9:30 a.m.

Camden Fire Department responded to the call and was able to extinguish the fire which reportedly stemmed from a dryer catching on fire.

Fire fighters Firefighters on scene said the fire seemed to have been caused by something inside the dryer that heated up enough to catch the other contents on fire.

The owner of the laundromat was able to provide surveillance footage of the incident to fire fighters firefighters on scene and after a review of the footage believed the item in the dryer to first catch fire was orange.

A melted orange item was found in the debris and firefighters firefighters said it may have been a glove or a sock.

Lance Teague of Camden Fire Department said it was difficult to determine at the scene the exact cause of the fire, but fires caused by items inside of the kind of dryers found in laundromats are not uncommon.

He said the kinds of dryers used in a laundromat get hotter than the ones a person would have in their home and this can cause some items in the dryer to get too hot and lead to a fire.

No injuries were reported from the fire and the extent of the damage is currently undetermined.
