Mobscene Motorsports will be hosting the annual Chilli Cook-Off in downtown Camden Saturday, adding a car show to this year's event, Laurie Kelly with Mobscene told the Camden Noon Lions Club on Wednesday.
What started as a hobby shop was officially incorporated this past January and is a full modern car shop despite their speciality in rebuilding classic cars. The car shop added a car show to the agenda this year.
Kelly went on to say this year's cook-off would follow the rules of the International Chilli Society.
The purpose in the new rules, according to Kelly, is to have the potential for future winners of the cook-off in Camden be eligible to compete in the World Chilli Cook-off in Mertle Beach, South Carolina. She said the winners won't be eligible this year, but they hope to be able to move the date in the future to create a path for the winners to go and compete for a $75,000 grand prize.
The proceeds from this year's Chilli Cook-off will be donated to two charities – The Call and Shop with a Cop.
Kelly said The Call is a nonprofit which specializes in providing training and support for foster families. The organization's vision, according to Kelly, is to have no children in foster care in Arkansas.
Kelly said 30,000 children have been cared for by The Call in Arkansas.
The second charity receiving donations from this event will be Shop with a Cop.
Shop with a Cop is a local charity event where local children in need are chosen to receive money and do their Christmas shopping with a member of the Camden Police Department.
According to Kelly, the children are chosen for participation by the school counselors.
The Chilli Cook-off is being held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday in downtown Camden.
Mobscene Motorsports is located on Hwy 79 next to the old bowling alley and questions about the cook-off or the car shop can be directed to Laurie Kelly at (870)231-3703.
