The First United Methodist Church in Camden hosted a community Thanksgiving meal this Thanksgiving.

The meal took place at the First United Methodist Church in downtown Camden and while they were the hosts for this meal they were not the only group involved in this community event which not only served holiday meals on site but also delivered meals to families in need both in the city of Camden, but the county at large.

Camden Mayor Charlotte Young has been organizing the meal delivery for the Thanksgiving meal for several years and she said they delivered 305 meals this year.

Young said the majority of the meals were delivered to families in Camden, but deliveries were also made to Chidester, East Camden and Bearden.

"Hopefully a lot of people are getting good meals today," said Young.

Tate Wunnenberg, an organizer for the Thanksgiving meal, said they had community members dine-in at the church many people were coming to pick up meals to take home to their families.

These dine-in and pick-up meals are in addition to the 305 meals delivered across the county.

Wunnenberg said they were expecting to serve around 500 meals.
