The Camden Fairview Cardinals (6-2, 4-1) handled the Hope Bobcats (1-7, ) 66-0 on Friday.
It was the third time in four weeks that the Cardinals hit the 60-point mark giving CF a 46 point per game average. It was the Cardinals first shut out in conference play this season and the third consecutive week of holding an opposing team to a touchdown or less.
CF rolled off 28 points in the first quarter alone. The first score came when Darre'll "Juney" Atkins Jr. hit Trent Haygood for a 25 yard touchdown at the 11:03 mark of the first quarter. Then Atkins would hit Jordan Elliott on a tunnel screen that he raced for a 40 yard touchdown. The point after was no good, but the Cardinals would make up for it on their next trip to the end zone.
Maliq Musa-Dennis blocked a Hope punt and Terrell Wilson picked it up and advanced it to the Bobcat 8. From there, Haygood would carry it into the end zone and Atkins would keep a read for the successful two-point conversion.
The next score would come after being set up by Justin Frazier who left the game briefly after a couple of big carries. Sophomore running back DeMarion Robinson entered the game to cap the drive from the 1 yard line. On CF's first possession of the second quarter, Frazier would get the touchdown that eluded him on the drive before when he punched it in from four yards out. The PAT was no good.
The Cardinals defense would force another three-and-out leading to a punt down to the CF 29. Atkins threw a quick pass to Haygood in the flat and he was able to find the end zone to put CF up 40-0 with 5 minutes left in the half.
Robinson scored his second touchdown on the night from 18 yards out. The ensuing PAT was good. With 30 seconds left in th half, Ronald "Buck" Buckhanan intercepted a pass near mid field and returned it to the 13. A couple of plays later, Robinson would score on a 7 yard carry. The PAT was good giving CF the 54-0 advantage at the half. In the second half, Zhalyn White added an 18 yard touchdown and Remondo Caver turned a short forward pass from Brodie Dow into a 20 yard touchdown after reversing the field.
The Cardinal's defensive front was nearly impenetrable all night with defensive tackle J'Son Moten tallying three-sacks in the first half alone. Dekayson Torrence, Wilson, and David Duhart and Zechariah Duhart were all able to get pressure on both of Hope's quarterbacks throughout the night.
Atkins finished 11/14 for 280 unofficially. CF rushed for 269 yards with Frazier leading the charge with 87. Haygood led the team in receiving yards with 189 on six receptions.
CF will not turn its attention to traveling to Hot Springs on Friday night to face the Trojans in a critical game. Lakeside and Parkview are both undefeated in conference and will face each other on Friday night as well. With a win, CF will be tied - record wise - for second in the conference with the loser of the game between Lakeside and Parkview and still have a chance to win a share of the 5A South conference title if they win out.
