The Harmony Grove Hornets (4-4, 3-2) toppled the Centerpoint Knights (6-2, 3-2) on the road last week and moved to third in the 3A-7.
Hornets went up 15-0 in the first quarter and would go on to lead 37-16 at the half. Centerpoint started to draw energy from the home field advantage. After scoring a touchdown on their first possession in the third quarter, Centerpoint recovered a HG fumble deep in their own territory that they were able to turn in to more points and cut the deficit to 9. HG would respond with a 40 yard touchdown run by quarterback Damian Burns to put HG ahead 43-28. Burns would add a successful two-point conversion pass to Damariyon Billingly. Centerpoint would score a touchdown then force a HG punt and add another touchdown but the Hornets would stop the two-point attempt to hold on to a 45-42 lead. The Hornets turned the ball over on downs at the 46 yard line and Centerpoint would take advantage and score another touchdown.
The Hornets would start their next possession with less than two-minutes left in the game on their 24 yard line. HG would matriculate the ball down the field thanks to its running game and go ahead after another Burns rushing touchdown and add the two point conversion with a minute left in the ball game. Centerpoint attempted to go down the field on their next possession but the pass would picked off by Zach Walker to seal the win.
Burns had a career night going 7/14 in the air for 162 yards and three touchdowns in the air, running 14 times for 192 yards and three touchdowns, having an interception return for a touchdown while being credited with 10 tackles. Billingly rushed for 85 yards on 10 carries.
Colton Fogle was the leading receiver of the game with two receptions for 125 yards and two touchdowns.
Dannon Vint and Keegan Jones combined for 30 tackles and Mason Hearnsberger had 2 sacks.
