The fires on Hwy 79, which started on October 7 rekindled this week.
Tuesday's dry conditions and increased wind created perfect conditions for the fires in Bearden to reignite and the Bearden Fire Department was called out again along with Forestry to contain the fire.
The fire was located just south of the Dollar General in Bearden, in the southbound lane of Hwy 79. The rekindled fire had spread further back into the woods than the initial fire on Oct. 7, but remained within the plough lines placed at the beginning of the month.
The Bearden Fire Department has been called out multiple times in the past month after reports of the fires having reignited, with this spot being one of the most prevalent.
However, the fire on the highway was not the only fire reported in the area with another piece of the woods having also rekindled on Tuesday.
Neither fire was easily accessible by the fire trucks and firefighters were left with having to contain the fire rather than putting it out.
The Forestry department returned to the scene with a bulldozer to reinforce the lines around the fire which had been ploughed on Oct. 7. They also used leaf blowers to blow any additional leaves and debris back within the fire lines in an effort to help contain the spread of the blaze.
While rain is in the forecast for the week, the amount is not likely to be enough to decrease the risk of wildfire.
Firefighters at the scene of the fire on Tuesday said it will take more than one day of rain to keep these fires from rekindling.
Burn bans remain in effect for the majority of the state and the risk of wildfires has increased to extreme in neighboring Clark and Dallas Counties.
Even with the rain predicted for Halloween, it will not be considered safe to have any fires at your home until the burn ban has been lifted.
